WINDRIDER - Now Playing: "Weathered"
by John Priddy
Co-written and co-directed by Matt Barber and Matthew Webb, graduates of San Jose State University film school and Fuller Theological Seminary’s Theology & Film program, respectively, WEATHERED, an Angelus Live Action semi-finalist, offers a perceptive, moving portrait of a woman immobilized by grief over losing her fiancé. Starring MadTV’s Nicole Parker in a uncharacteristically dramatic role, the film follows Weather Wellington as she attempts to fulfill her dormant longing for meaningful human contact via the mundane task of making doctors’ appointments. An Audience Award winner at the Indianapolis International Film Festival, WEATHERED has also screened at the Heartland Film Festival, among others. more...

by John Priddy
Phoenix native Sean Christensen based his five-minute, live action short FAN MAIL, which he also narrated, on an actual fan letter he wrote to performance artist-director Miranda July (Me and You and Everyone We Know). An Angelus finalist, the film, which critics describe alternately as introspective and tongue-in-cheek, also secured Awards of Merit at the Accolade Competition and took the Arizona Award for Best Short Film at the Arizona State University Art Museum Short Film and Video Festival. An illustrator and songwriter in addition to filmmaker, Christensen, who studied cinema and film production at San Francisco State University, has also written and directed several other award-winning live action and animated films. more...

WINDRIDER: Now Playing - Topi and American Made
by John Priddy
We are proud to present the next Windy Wednesday film in our Windrider WinterFest series: “Topi” by Arjun Rihan, and, as an added treat: “American Made” by Sharat Raju. Both family friendly (FF) films feature “hats” as a key story theme; both use headwear to illustrate points of cultural friction. And, both encourage us to look beyond external symbols (like hats) -- into the very heart of the wearer. As we jump in to 2010, I want to again wish our “windy” followers a Happy New Year … one that increasingly finds us looking beyond people’s physical appearance and into their spirit. more...

Fiesta Bowl DVD hits the shelves Tuesday
by Dustin Lapray
We love this stuff.
The Arbiter staff was given an advance copy of the 2006-07 Boise State Football season DVD “Out of the Blue, A Film About Life and Football at Boise State,” and man did it get our hearts racing.
Any chance we get to reminisce about that week in Arizona is a chance for us to talk about the nerves rattling and rumbling and it just fires us up.
This show is phenomenal. Not only does it recap the greatest season in the history of Boise State Athletics, but it also works to tell the stories of the people involved. You will hear about Coach Chris Petersen and his transition from the Dan Hawkins era.
There is a nifty running graphic of a player watching the Broncos rise in the polls. more...

The game on Jan. 1 in Glendale, Ariz., was the perfect end to a perfect season that thrilled Bronco fans, stunned the sports world and led to a new kind of renown for the team, players, Boise and Idaho. more...
